Music Ministry

WHAT IS THE MUSIC MINISTRY?

The Music Ministry provides the music for our school's Masses and prayer services. We feature both contemporary praise songs and traditional Liturgical songs in our repertoire. We hope that all our students will deepen their faith in Jesus and learn the value of service, and that each young man who participates in the Music Ministry will continue his ministry into adulthood.

WHO ARE THE MUSICIANS IN THE BAND?

Students! The group is under the leadership of Mr. Brian Donofree and Mr. John Raimondo, long-time Iona Prep faculty members and professional musicians, who help the boys achieve musical excellence; and the Religion Department's Mrs. Donna M. Donofree, who guides the team spiritually and in prayer.

WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE MUSIC MINISTRY?

Pope Francis says that it's important that Catholics express true joy in worship. Our style of music helps bring joy to a Mass which is designed specifically for young people. Helping our student body draw closer to the Lord and our church is our mission.

WHAT IS THE MUSIC MINISTRY EXPERIENCE?

The boys have fun just hanging out together, wearing their "Iona Prep Music Ministry" shirts with pride, and developing their musical talents. Guest speakers visit to talk about the importance of faith and the role music can play; there are also field trips, including St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC.

CAN MY SON BECOME PART OF THE MUSIC MINISTRY?

Yes! Any student who is interested in joining the Music Ministry should contact Mr. Donofree at bdonofree@ionaprep.org; Mrs. Donofree at ddonofree@ionaprep.org; or Mr. Raimondo at jraimondo@ionaprep.org. Previous musical experience and talent is helpful - but not required!

ARE YOU A MUSIC MINISTRY ALUM?

If you played in the Music Ministry band when you attended Iona Prep, remember - all alums of the music ministry are invited to return to the Prep and sing/play in the "Alumni Chorus" at the annual Christmas Mass and the end-of-year Baccalaureate Mass. Just get in touch to let us know you're coming!
