Edmund Rice Society
The Edmund Rice Society, named after the founder of the Christian Brothers, is a service organization. The Edmund Rice Society engages in various service and fund-raising activities during the year.
Its major activity is conducting the Edmund Rice Camp at Iona Prep. The Edmund Rice Camp provides a summer camp experience for poor children who would otherwise have no opportunity for such an experience. There is no charge to the children who attend the camp, nor to their families. The Edmund Rice Society provides the funds and the camp counselors. The Fathers Council helps with the funding and the Mothers Auxiliary helps with the meals.
Edmund Rice Camps are part of a world - wide movement which is inspired by the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice who "was moved by the Holy Spirit to open his whole heart to Christ present and appealing to him in the poor. He was given the grace to respond by identifying through Christ with the poor in order to evoke in them a deep awareness of God's loving presence." (Christian Brothers' General Chapter)
