Coach Spagnolo '98 Chats with 98.7-FM ESPN New York's Mike Quick; Edwards '19 Earns Player of the Week Honors
Varsity football coach Joseph Spagnolo '98 was on with 98.7-FM ESPN New York's Mike Quick and his High School Football Report on Sept. 22, hours before the Gaels would race out to a 24-point lead and then hang on to defeat Cardinal Hayes 51-48 for a 3-0 start. The segment started with senior Jimaar Edwards, who was named 98.7-FM's High School Player of the Week.
Edwards recording 11 tackles and a fourth-quarter interception that he returned for the game-tying touchdown against defending state champion Stepinac on Sept. 15. Quick remarked on how impressed he was with the senior's athleticism, as well as fellow senior Matthew Panker's toughness--he had a 60-yard touchdown reception against the Crusaders after fumbling on a hard hit earlier in the game, and added three more touchdowns versus Hayes.
He also commented on sophomore Franklin McFadden, whose move-the-pile pushes for extra yardage have made him seem virtually unstoppable. McFadden would have two scores against the Hayesmen.
