Iona Prep Plungers are Tops in the State Again

The Iona Prep Plungers not only won their third consecutive Cool School Challenge on Nov. 18 at Glen Island Park, but also became the top fundraising team in all of New York State for the second year in a row. The Gaels garnered more than $35,000 in contributions in helping the ninth annual Westchester Polar Plunge bested its original goal by more than $33,000 in raising over $140,000 for the Special Olympics.

Of the more than 350 Special Olympics athletes sponsored by this year's Westchester Polar Plunge (it costs approximately $400 per athlete per sport), the Prep Plungers accounted for 90 of them alone in raising almost $10,000 more than the second place finisher.

"I am very proud of these young men and their commitment to Special Olympics," moderator Mrs. Patricia Gray said.
