Charif Shanahan US’01 celebrates publication of his first poetry book

Charif Shanahan US’01 celebrated the publication of his first book of poetry, "Into Each Room We Enter without Knowing," with a reading and signing party in front of an enthusiastic audience at Poets House in Manhattan on March 7.

Charif holds an MFA in poetry from New York University and degrees in Comparative Literature from Dartmouth College and Princeton University. His poems have appeared in Baffler, Boston Review, Callaloo, Literary Hub, New Republic, Poetry International, Prairie Schooner and elsewhere.

He has received awards and fellowships from the Academy of American Poets, Cave Canem Foundation, The Frost Place, the Fulbright Program/IIE, the Millay Colony for the Arts and Stanford University, where he is a Wallace Stegner Fellow in Poetry.
