AP Biology students were LIVE...from Cardiac Classroom
Students in Mr. Dombrowski's Advanced Placement Biology class traveled to Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J., on Jan. 27 to participate in Live From Cardiac Classroom, where they witnessed a cardiac valve replacement.
In addition to a real-time video feed, the viewing room also had an audio feed and students were able to interact with the operating room team, asking them questions as they performed the surgery.
Students also handled models of healthy and diseased hearts, surgical instruments and trocar portals that are used to hold incisions open during surgery. They learned more about anatomy, risk factors for heart disease and careers in medicine.
All procedures are performed by operating room staff at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
