JV Hockey opens playoffs with sudden-death OT win over rival
Having out-shot their rival for most of the night, the second-seeded Iona Prep junior varsity hockey team broke through with just eleven seconds to go in sudden-death overtime against the Fordham Prep Rams in a Catholic High School Hockey League (CHSHL) playoff game, recording a 2-1 victory at the E.J. Murray Memorial Skating Center in Yonkers.
Stefan Oddoux recorded the game-winning with time winding down when he picked up a loose rebound in the crease and sealed the win for the Gaels. Oddoux and Ryan Soules, who both had a goal and assist in the game, led the way for Iona Prep. Goalie Alex Rohlf made 19 saves in the winning effort.
Fordham Prep’s only goal came on a penalty shot, when one of the Gael forwards covered the puck in the crease with his hand. The victory was true team effort, as the Gaels out-shot the Rams virtually 2-1, and didn’t stop until they broke through.
Iona Prep faces the winner of the Chaminade-Farrell game in a best-of-three series for the championship of the JV division.
