8th Grade Advances; 4th, 5th Grade Playoff Runs End
The Lower School varsity basketball team will continue its defense of last year's CYO state title this weekend, while the fourth and fifth-grade squads saw their hardwood hardware hopes end in quarterfinal matchups on Feb. 20.
Coming off an 8-4 regular season, the third-seeded fourth-grade Gaels fell to second-seed Immaculate Conception of Tuckahoe, 32-18, at the Upper School's Heffernan Gymnasium, ending a stellar season. The second-seeded fifth grade also lost, 36-18, to St. Gregory's of Harrison, the third seed. Those Gaels finished the regular season at 9-3.
Meanwhile, the eighth-grade kept its postseason alive with a dominating performance against All Saints, winning 57-36 on Feb. 21. That puts the third-seeded Gaels in the semifinals against Resurrection of Rye, the third-seed, on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Tully Gymnasium. The victor will play the Holy Name Valhalla-St. Mary's Katonah winner the following day at 1:30 p.m. back at the Upper School.
Congratulations to all our Gaels for doing the Maroon & Gold proud!
