2 alumni earn Fulbright Scholarships

When the Institute of International Education announces its 2015-2016 Fulbright Scholars in October, Iona Preparatory School K-12 will have two alumni on the prestigious list in William Doyle '74 and Anthony Leo '11.

Doyle will be lecturing and studying global education and media in Finland as he prepares for the release of two books this fall. He is the author of "PT-109: JFK's Night of Destiny" (HarperCollins, Fall 2015) and the co-author of "Secrets of the World's Healthiest Children" (Little Brown UK, Fall 2015), an exploration of Japanese healthy longevity.

Last year, he co-authored "Navy Seals: Their Untold Story" (HarperCollins) and co-produced the hit companion PBS documentary special. The year before that, Doyle co-authored "American Gun: A History of the U.S. in Ten Firearms" with New York Times bestselling author and former Navy Seal Chris Kyle.

Thirty-seven years Doyle's junior, Leo will be studying the barriers to foreign direct investment in Albania, which he describes as a potential frontier economy positioned for growth and stability. Presently a senior finance major with a minor in economics at Pace University's Pforzheimer Honors College, Leo first became involved with the financial world during a internship at the New York Stock Exchange while he was still at Iona Prep. There he met Noel Thompson, for whom he later interned and assisted in the advisement of Albania's state-owned oil company, Albpetrol.

"Iona Prep empowered me to be a leader in my community and after I graduated I found myself yearning for ways to give back just as I've done at the Prep," Leo said. "I am looking forward to fulfilling my desire to serve others in our global community as a Fulbright Scholar, but more importantly, as an Iona Prep alum."
