Turkey Bowlers brave snow to raise $660 for Gardini '16
More than 40 alumni, fathers and sons threw caution to the wind and a love of the Prep to the cold for the Lower School Fathers Club's fifth annual Turkey Bowl. It was a game that featured all the fixings, from a game-winning touchdown catch to raising money for a fellow Gael's game-winning drive.
After moving to the Upper School football field, the dads, grads and sons of Iona Prep tackled the freshly fallen snow and each other in a family-friendly game. And it was arguably the best one of the day. With none of the three professional Thanksgiving Day football games being decided by less than 16 points, Mr. Spencer Bellamy P'24 put the New York Giants' Odell Beckham Jr. to shame with a juggling, game-winning touchdown reception to give the fathers the victory.
Of course, the real victory belonged to Nicholas Gardini '16
, who continues to move the chains in his fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The Turkey Bowl raised $660 for the Gardini family to offset his medical expenses.
Initiated by Tom Fritsch P'18 four years ago, the Turkey Bowl continues to be a great community-building event. The Lower School Fathers Club hopes it will become part of your family’s Thanksgiving tradition!
