Iona Prep Alums Welcomed as Yonkers Firefighters

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Fire Commissioner Robert Sweeney welcomed a new class of 50 firefighters Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at a swearing-in ceremony at the Riverfront Library. These new members placed extremely high on the list of firefighter candidates and will go through intensive training to prepare them to serve for their city. The new firefighters will begin a 16-week training period at the Westchester County Training Center in Valhalla and are expected to graduate in late December. The 50 new probationary firefighters are in addition to the 30 firefighters hired in February of this year, and by the end of this year, the Yonkers Fire Department will have 80 new firefighters with a grand total of 322. Five of the new probationary firefighters are Iona Prep Alums; John Barbezat '09, Michael Brilla '01, David DeOliveira '07, Thomas Kilduff '07, Colin Murray '07. Congratulations and good luck!
