Purple Heart Recipient - Mark Baaden '90

Army Lt. Col. Mark Baaden '90 received the Purple Heart Award Sunday, August 8, 2013. The Purple Heart is awarded to those who were injured in combat. The award presentation occurred on Purple Heart Appreciation Day, the 231st anniversary of the creation of the Badge of Military Merit. Mark suffered a traumatic brain injury on December 11, 2003 after a suicide bomber attacked his base in Ramadi, Iraq. Mark is currently battalion commander in the U.S. Army Reserves of the 403rd Civil Affairs Battalion in Mattydale, Onondaga County and is also a New York State Police Sergeant in the Wappinger barracks. He will be returning to school for a second master's degree in public administration.
